Are You Seasick?

There’s nothing worse than being seasick. Especially if you’re living on a boat. No person is the same and it seems that different people swear by different remedies. You might need to try them all. There are MANY recommendations for helping to ease that nasty feeling, and the list is as follows:

NATURAL

  • One earplug in the dominant ear
  • Ginger
    • ginger gum
    • ginger ale
    • ginger candy
    • ginger cookies
    • essential oil
    • tea
  • Lots of distractions, listen to music, change a sail, look for dolphins
  • Acupuncture (pressure point) bracelets
  • Drinks with carbonation (although some say without fizz is better)
  • Time, could last a few days
  • Anchor out the night before
  • DO NOT GO DOWN BELOW
  • Keep eyes on the horizon
  • Keep busy doing chores, etc.
  • Peppermint essential oil on temples and belly
  • Close eyes
  • Start out sleeping (leave when kids are sleeping)
  • No books or iPads
  • Avoid alcohol, spicy, or fat-rich foods
  • Drink lots of water
  • Vitamin C

MEDS
**Check doctor recommendations on age and breastfeeding**
Many meds do have side effects, including drowsiness (not good for watches).

  • Meclizine
    • Bonine
    • Bonine Jr.
    • Dramamine
    • Antivert
  • Gravol (Canada) OTC
  • Antihistamines
    • Stugeron (cinnarizine)
  • Skin patches
    • Scopolamine patches
